GOGO 2023 schedule

  • March: Get GOing (180 points maximum)

    • 5 points for every 5 days of riding (minimum of 2 miles is needed to count as a day of riding)
    • 5 points for every 25 miles cumulative distance
    • 5 points for every 1500 feet cumulative elevation gain
    • 10 points for each single ride over 20 miles
    • 10 points for each single ride over 1500 feet of elevation gain

Properly measured trainer rides are permitted, but will be credited with no elevation. Credit for all manual entries (no GPS track outdoors, no speed sensor indoors) is limited to 5 miles per day.

  • April: GOmoji Around the World (195 points maximum)

Individual Adventure (175 points maximum): Collect emoji in any quantity or combination you like.
🛣 (20 points): for each 100 total miles
⛰ (10 points): for every 2500 ft total elevation gain
🚴 (10 points): for each single ride of 30+ miles
☀ (10 points): for every 10 days of riding (minimum of 2 miles is needed to count as a day of riding)
🌐 for the first 24.9 total miles ridden

In addition, you may earn each of the following by posting a ride to Strava with the hashtag in the title along with a fitting photo. Only one hashtag per ride, please.
    🌎 (5 points): #earth 🌬 (5 points): #wind
    🔥 (5 points): #fire , 🌊 (5 points) for #water

If you collect ALL nine emoji above you’ll also earn: 🏆 (20 points)

Group Adventure (20 points maximum): Let’s ride around the world for Earth Month. For every 24,901 mile circumnavigation of the globe by the group (up to two), individuals who have earned the 🌐 emoji will get an additional 10 points.

As an example, the leaderboard will display your individual emoji collection like this:
    🌐🛣🛣🛣⛰⛰🚴🚴🌎🌬🔥

Properly measured trainer rides are permitted, but will be credited with no elevation. Credit for all manual entries (no GPS track outdoors, no speed sensor indoors) is limited to 5 miles per day.

  • May: Complete The Calendar (and EDIM) (210 points maximum)

Ride alone or participate as a DUO. As a DUO you will combine your daily mileage with that of your partner. GOGO will do the matchmaking. You might make a friend halfway around the world! If you’re up for it, ride Every Day In May (EDIM) and earn individual bonus points.

Ride daily mileage equal to (or greater than) a numerical calendar day to fill in a calendar date. You do not have to complete calendar days in order: 1 mile on the 1st, 2 miles on the 2nd, 3 miles on the 3rd and so forth. Instead, fill your calendar in any order: If you GO 35 miles on May 1st, you’ll fill in the spot for May 31st. If you ride 20 miles on May 1st, you will fill in the date for May 20th. If you ride 20 miles again, you will fill in the largest unfilled number below 20: if May 19th and 18th are filled but the 17th is not, you’ll fill the May 17th slot.

Helpful Hint: Ride big early and save the low mileage calendar days for last or for days when work/school/life necessitates quicker, low mileage rides.

You earn 5 points for each calendar day filled in for a maximum of 155 calendar points. E.g. 31 days yields 155 points (31 x 5), while 20 days yields 100 (20 x 5). If you have a partner, you each earn the points.

To be eligible for May points, a rider must ride at least 25 total miles during the month.

    Bonus point opportunities:

    • participate in a DUO: 5 points
    • complete your calendar: 10 points
    • EDIM Bonus: Any rider who rides at least 1 mile each day of the month will earn bonus points based on total mileage as follows:

      • 496+ miles: 40 points
      • 248+ miles: 25 points
      • 62+ miles: 10 points

Properly measured trainer rides are permitted, but will be credited with no elevation. Credit for all manual entries (no GPS track outdoors, no speed sensor indoors) is limited to 5 miles per day.

  • June: Celebrate World Bike Day (185 points maximum)

The United Nations established World Bicycle Day for many reasons. As basic as it is, the impact of the bicycle on society is quite transformative — even the poorest people get access to basic transport with the bicycle. For many of us, riding a bicycle without training wheels is the first challenging physical activity we learn to master. We all remember, don’t we? A running start, the protective hand secured to the bicycle seat is released and then we were off and pedaling. In the spirit of that very first ride, and your first ride on a GO, celebrate World Bicycle Day, June 3, 2023.

June’s GOventure celebrates cycling. Points from each category may be combined in any way to earn a maximum of 140 points:

    • 1 point for every 10 miles cumulative distance.
    • 1 point for every 250 feet cumulative elevation gain.
    • 10 points for each single ride over 20 miles
    • 10 points for each single ride over 1500 feet of elevation gain

Errandneuring hashtag posts. Borrowing from “randonneuring”(*) and to demonstrate support of World Bike Day, you may earn an additional 5 points for each week in which you use your GO to complete an errand. Ride to a coffee shop, for ice cream, the library, the market, a doctor’s appointment, or wherever your GO takes you instead of using a car. Commuting to work counts. Yes, stopping for a refreshment or meal during a normal ride counts. Post a photo of your bike at the location, add it to your Strava post, and include one of the following hash-tagged reasons in the ride title: #appointment, #errand, #market, #coffee, #commute, #donuts, #library, #breakfast, #lunch, #pub. You’re encouraged to include additional thoughts in the Strava description field.

Use one errandneuring hashtag ride in each of the following date ranges:

    • Errandneuring 1: 1 – 8 June
    • Errandneuring 2: 9 – 15 June
    • Errandneuring 3: 16 – 22 June
    • Errandneuring 4: 22 – 30 June

Note: you are allowed to use the same hashtag more than once.

World Bike Day. Finally, earn up to 25 additional points in recognition of World Bike Day: select one ride between June 1st and June 5th, put #worldbikeday in the title and then accumulate 1 point per mile up to 25 miles for that ride. May NOT be combined with errandneuring (i.e. your June 1-8 errandneuring post must be on a different day than your #worldbikeday post)

Properly measured trainer rides are permitted, but will be credited with no elevation. Credit for all manual entries (no GPS track outdoors, no speed sensor indoors) is limited to 5 miles per day.

Footnote: Randonneuring is long-distance unsupported endurance cycling. This style of riding is non-competitive in nature, and self-sufficiency is paramount. When riders participate in randonneuring events, they are part of a long tradition that goes back to the beginning of the sport of cycling in France and Italy. Friendly camaraderie, not competition, is the hallmark of randonneuring. Some randonneuring links: Randonneurs USA, Audax UK, Audax Club Parisien (FR)

  • July: IECD and Poker rides (205 points maximum, mystery prize for the poker winner)
Earn up to 180 points by meeting weekly distance or elevation goals and up to another 25 points for riding on International Elliptical Cycling Day (IECD). In addition, July provides a weekly ElliptiGO Poker game in which daily rides earn cards and the riders with the best hands have a chance to win a prize.

July 8th, International Elliptical Cycling Day (25 points) IECD marks the 19th anniversary of ElliptiGO co-founders Bryan Pate, CEO, and Brent Teal, CTO, formalizing their partnership to develop the world’s first elliptical bicycle in July 2005. Ride any distance on IECD and receive 1 point per mile up to 25 miles.

July riding points: (180 points) During each riding week (July 1-9, 10-16, 17-23, 24-31), riders can earn points and bonus points based on the tables below.
